| Answer | | · Why can't I hear the MP3s? Depending upon your computer and browser's configuration, you might be trying to stream the file to your player, rather than download it. In theory, this should be fine, but there can be problems relating to your bandwidth. For example, I wouldn't try to stream through a modem.
If this seems to describe your problem, you can change this behavior within your browser (you shouldn't be losing any functionality - if you can't stream an mp3 from here then you probably can't stream one from elsewhere, either). If you would rather not change anything, or don't know how, you can also just download the songs to your PC by right-clicking the title and choosing the "Save As.." option (e.g. "Save Target As..." in IE, "Save Link As..." in firefox). Once the song is on your PC, you can simply play it locally using whichever media player you prefer.
If you're having some other issue with the songs, please send me a message and I'll dig into it.

| | · I'm trying to use "Save Link As..." to save an MP3 - why does my browser want to name it download-file-#.html This seems to be a problem with firefox (oddly, IE seems OK) stemming from the fact that the script that delivers the file is named download-file-(some number).html. Actually, it's named something entirely different that gets rewritten at the server with mod_rewrite, but that's a bit off-topic.
The work-around for this is to just rename the file that it downloads, either when prompted by your browser, or after the download is finished. I recommend "That track from the doom patrol that kicks all manner of ass.mp3".
I've looked into replacing the file pass-through with a direct link to the download, but that kills our ability to collect some useful download statistics. I'd like to eventually replace it with a direct link that's accompanied by some AJAX fanciness that maintains our stats-collection, but that's somewhere in the future. If you find the situation intolerable, send me a message.
