2001-2-3 Phantasy Show by Gate Control

We started that evening with Doom Patrol, two guys, one white and one black, who not to sound predjudice or anything, was really a surprise for me, in my opinion a black guy seems out of place in the genre of industrial music, and it was just an odd surprise to see. I think it's cool people of different cultures can find a common place in many kinds of music, especially industrial.

Doom Patrol also performs in a way I haven't seen before either. They have ACTS to their set, and dress the stage as if performing a play. They set up two video monitors showing swirling patterns of images in front of them, and behind they set up a wall with some bizzare artwork adorning them. This wall also supports a set up of swirling lights they use throughout their show. ACT 1 consisted of slow songs that seemed nice at first but got kind of boring later. At this point I wondered why they called themselves "Doom Patrol" I expected them to be heavy. Later in ACT 2 they lived up to their name, and played harder EBM dance tracks filled with grinding guitar and angst-ridden vocals. They are definitely two bands in one. They ended their set with a slow poetic song ending the storm they just produced in ACT 2. If you have the opportunity to check out Doom Patrol, do it, they are something very different in a world of cookie cutter industrial bands.
